Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Company Limited

Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UAEDCL) was incorporated on 23rd October, 2004 as a Public Limited Company wholly owned by Govt. of Assam. The Company has at present about 3.75 lakhs of registered consumers of different categories spread over the districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji and covered by 5 (five) Electrical Revenue Circles.

After the unbundling of ASEB in 2004, UAEDCL has gone through power sector reforms and taken up initiatives for several developmental works with a view to supply reliable and quality power to consumers to their full satisfaction. In the first phase sizeable quantity of defective and stopped energy meters have been changed to serve the consumer with an energy bill on the basis of actual monthly energy consumption. In many Sub-Divisions computerized bill have been served to the consumers and in other Sub-Divisions works are in progress. Other steps being taken are construction of new 33/11 KV Sub-Stations, Renovation & Augmentation of old Sub-Stations, installation of new Distribution Transformers (DTR) and renovation of existing DTRs with a view to provide reliable power at improved voltage to consumer, fixing of energy meters in the DTRs for Feeder wise AT&C loss determination and taking remedial measures for reduction of losses, customer care etc. The initiatives already undertaken have yielded encouraging results.

UAEDCL has achieved some success so far in its journey towards reforms with a view to serve the consumers to their full satisfaction. The company has also taken initiatives to reduce AT&C losses by way of arresting the pilferage of energy by HT Industries and Commercial Consumers which are the major players. There have been regular crackdown on power theft with the help of “Task Force” constituted by the State Govt. and steps are being taken to constitute special court to try the cases of power theft expeditiously. More stress is given in reducing loss and achieving the target set by Honorable Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) otherwise the same will have direct bearing in determination of new tariff. UAEDCL can become an economically viable entity only when it can run without any revenue deficit or operational losses.

We have a very long way to go which is full of thorns. This is just a beginning and I am sure that with the hard work, sincerity, and sense of belongingness by each and every employee of UAEDCL and of course the cooperation of all our valued consumers, we will be able to achieve our goals.

UAEDCL has sponsored Engineers and Junior Engineers to undertake training in different Power Utilities and Training Institutes outside the State apart from imparting training at National Power Training Institute, North Eastern Region, Narengi. Further Bill Clerk and Meter Readers including the Line Staff are also trained at different places within the state. Maximum emphasis has been given to mould the employees to match with the present day requirement and change their mindset.

UAEDCL will relentlessly work towards better quality of supply and ensure that all consumer issues are resolved within a definite time frame to the satisfaction of the consumer.

I am happy that now the company has got its own website (www.uaedcl.gov.in) which can be accessed by anyone to get in-depth information about the company and its operations. Through the website, the consumers can access the contact details and can directly contact the respective subdivisions, divisions, circles and officers of the Headquarters for resolving of any issues/grievances in very short time.

Let us all join hands in our pursuit to achieve our mission to provide quality power at a reasonable cost to all the consumers and in the process, contribute to socio-economic development of the state of Assam and its people.
