Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) and its companies provide an essential service to the people of Assam. In carrying out the duty of supplying electricity, ASEB through its successor companies touches every part of the state. ASEB is serving the people of Assam with a consumer base of around 13 lakhs and which is growing every year.

The last 3 years have seen a wave of restructuring and reforms in Assam electricity sector. ASEB was unbundled into 5 companies - Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Company Ltd., Central Assam Electricity Distribution Company Ltd., Lower Assam Electricity Distribution Company Ltd., Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd., and Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd. Since their formation, all the companies are striving hard to improve their efficiency and performance every year thereby giving quality services to the consumers. ASEB has been restructured with a view to making the Power Sector in the state financially viable and to give better services to the consumers.

Mere structural reforms will not yield results unless this is coupled with operational reforms.

UAEDCL is continuing the reforms process that helps in reducing the transmission and distribution losses, achieving 100% metering, providing Information Technology solutions and improving the overall performance of the company. However this process can be a success only if all the employees in ASEB and its successor companies are motivated for reforms as well as for giving better service to the consumers.

I am glad that the three distribution companies have launched their own websites. These websites will act as a medium between the respective companies and the consumer thereby providing detailed information related to the company’s activities, latest developments and other services.

I thank all the staff of UAEDCL for their willingness to provide better services for the consumers and I hope the company will continue to improve its standards and strive to achieve our motto of supplying quality uninterrupted power at a reasonable cost to the consumers. Let us all work towards achieving our mission of providing the power for all by 2012.
